As a mom of 7, including a set of twins and a set of triplets, I have tried so many things. Some worked and some didn’t. Here I will share my top 10 baby registry must haves for multiples.
At 23 years old I had my very first child…well children. I was blessed enough to give birth to a beautiful set of twins, Cameron and Olivia. Not only did I have no idea what all I actually needed for a newborn, I now had to figure out what I needed for 2 newborns. Add that on top of trying to figure out how on earth I am going to take proper care of 2 infants, it was a lot. I didn’t really know anyone (except my grandma) to give any advice. I did my best, but now 11 years later, there is a lot I would change. Now that I have had triplets, I have a much better idea of my needs and wants, and I am going to share my knowledge with you of my baby registry must haves for multiples.
When it comes to making a baby registry I used Amazon. It is easy, quick, and you can do it all from your home. For the twins I just went to Walmart and Target and scanned everything. When the triplets came along I was able to do everything online. One thing I really liked about using Amazon baby registry is you can continue to add to it as more things come to mind. It is also very easy for your friends and family to find and purchase from it. You can make one here. I am hopeful my baby registry must haves for multiples will help an expecting parent get their baby registry primed and ready for their new set of multiples.

Cribs
Cribs take up a lot of room. This the one item that will be used every single day (unless you co sleep). This is a pretty important item, but that doesn’t mean you need to go buy the best of the best. A simple crib from Ikea, Walmart, or Amazon will do just fine. This is one I found that I really like and is at a good price point. At under $150-$200 it makes it not so hard to buy 2, 3 or even 4 of them.
Swing or bouncer
With the twins I only had a bouncer for each. They did okay, but I think they probably would have been happier if I had a swing option for them. When it came to the triplets I made sure I registered for both. These were not items that were used for very long. I absolutely loved having them, even for the short time we used them.
It worked out great for us. We had a small and mobile swing that was battery operated, a small bouncer that was easily moved from room to room. Then we had the big swing bouncer combo. I have to say this was and is still my favorite. With this I was able to use it as swing that plugs in or I could take off the seat and have a bouncer I could take from room to room. I would highly recommend getting a combination of these. Not all kids like bouncers and not all like swings, having these three items saved my day.
Bathtub
When it comes to bathing multiple babies, I promise, you only need one bath tub. For some reason a lot of new moms of multiples think they need a baby bath tub for each baby. You can only safely bathe one baby at a time. I know there is the option for the other parent to bathe one while you bathe one. The reality is that if you want bath time to go smoothly and quickly you will have one parent bathing one baby while the other parent gets the next baby ready. Once the first baby is clean you switch out and one washes the second baby while one dries and dresses the first. Believe me, this is the best way to work through bath time quickly.
For our baby shower for the triplets my amazing cousin got me this Bathtub. I love it and wish I had it for the twins. It can be set in the normal bath tub or it has indents to set it over your kitchen sink. Oh my goodness, it saved my back. My back is not what it was 10 years ago, so not having to hunch and reach with my tiny t-rex arms was amazing.
Portable crib (better known as a Pack and Play)
When bought our house we apparently didn’t think everything through. We bought a 2 story home, with all the kids’ bed rooms upstairs. I know what you are thinking, there is nothing wrong with 2 story homes. And you are right, there isn’t. It is rough when you have 3 infants that need to be taken upstairs for bed time every night, brought back down for night time feedings, then back up again (there room is not set up for a feeding area) multiple times a night and then brought down in the morning. This isn’t even counting naptimes during the day.
The “pack and play” saved us. We had a twin sized portable crib and the triplets practically lived in it for the first few months. We then split up, one in a normal sized and two in the twin sized. This is something I highly recommend, especially if you have a multi-story home. We still use our smaller Portable crib in the living room for Finnegan during the day.
Swaddles – For the love of all things holy, get swaddles
When I had the twins I did not swaddle them at all. And let me tell you, it was rough. Cameron would never sleep, he wanted to be held all the time. I had no idea what was wrong, I was a first time mom and didn’t have many friends that were moms yet. I just assumed he was a rough baby.
When the triplets came they spent the first few weeks of their lives in the NICU, and they were swaddled the entire time. Perceval and Magnus came home with us first and it was horrible. They didn’t sleep at all. The next day when we went back to visit Laurence, our nurse gave us some of the swaddles they wore in the NICU. It was a game changer. They slept!!!! We continued to swaddle them for 4 months. I had no idea how amazing swaddles were. Now I am in full support swaddles. If it weren’t for them, I don’t know how I would have survived. I would gave gotten no sleep.
Diapers and more diapers
Diapers are something every new parent needs. There are many options you can choose from. As far a disposable diapers there is Huggies, Pampers, Luvs, Seventh Generation, and store brand. Then there are so many different options for cloth diapers. You have Green Mountain Diapers, work at home moms from Etsy, Niki’s Diapers, and so many more. We bought a lot of our cloth diapers on Amazon or used from a close family friend. In more urban areas you may even have option for a diaper service. For our family the money saved from cloth diapering triplets was well worth the extra 3 loads of laundry a week. If you are on a tight budget I recommend looking it cloth diapers. Alva Baby has some really great prices and you can buy in bulk.
Baby monitor
Since our triplets are upstairs we needed a baby monitor with multiple cameras so we would know if boys needed us right away or if they just needed time to settle down. With our budget I wasn’t able to get one with three cameras but I did find one with two cameras that you can move with the LCD screen. That seems to work really we for us. This baby monitor with 2 cameras works really well for our triplets with the way our nursery is set up.
Clothing
When it comes to clothing things can get difficult. You have no idea how big your babies will be when they are born. I have tiny babies. All 7 of my kids were in preemie clothing when they came home from the hospital. The triplets were in the preemie sleepers for months, especially Laurence. Keep in mind he was only 2 pounds and 7 ounces when he was born, so he was extra small for an extra long time.
Also, when it comes to dressing my babies I do not go fancy. We put them in sleepers 90% of the time until they can walk. Now we don’t go very many places where they will be out of their car seats, so I see no point in putting them in nice clothing. Putting them in a warm cozy sleeper makes much more sense to me.
Baby jail, Kiddy kennel, you get the idea
This one can get a bit controversial, but you have to keep the “monsters” contained. When the triplets start to get mobile things get crazy. They are EVERY WHERE! I couldn’t even go to the restroom without them wondering off. This Play yard was one thing that saved my tail and kept them safe. I put one in the living room for them play in, and one outside for nice days. They practically lived in this, unless they were being held or fed.
We now have the play yard unhooked and wrapped around the living room in front of our book cases, homeschool control center, and television. Now that they are almost 2, they are figuring it out and working together to push it down and climb over it. I need to come up with another solution to this, but for under $100 I was able to protect the kids and my belongings for almost 2 years.
Stroller
Triplet strollers are so expensive! I could not justify spending that much on a stroller. Our solution was to buy the Snap and Go double stroller and a Baby Trend sit and stand double stroller. Between the two of these we made it work. The Snap and Go was such a help. It was light weight, compact, and I could put any infant seat in it. We passed it onto another family and were given a smell single stroller once they out grew it (and I was tired of picking up their infant seats)
That worked for us all last summer, but this year we have yet another baby and the triplets are getting big. We decided to upgrade to the Wonderfold W4 wagon. I am loving it. As of right now I wear Finnegan since he is still too small to sit up on his own in it. For Saturday morning soccer we are able to keep blankets for the babies, snacks for all the kids, my camera equipment, and the kids soccer stuff, all while staying dry. So far it has been worth every penny.

My registry tips
My last thing I want you to think about for your baby registry must haves for multiples is how many of each item you actually need. If you are bottle feeding I would say make sure you have 4-6 bottles per child. For diapers keep in mind that a newborn goes through an average of 10 diapers a day. For triplets that is 30 a day, my advice is to get the big packs. One thing I have tons of is baby bath towels. I received around 40 for my baby shower, I have maybe used 10. So many kids means we have to regularly do laundry so it doesn’t pile up. For this reason, you do not need 40 bath towels.
What are your favorite items for you baby registry? Any parents of multiples that have baby must haves to share with expecting parents?
